We have covered quite a bit over the last few weeks in simple machines and how they make work easier for us. I would like for us to shift over to our Social Studies Unit on Early Civilizations and think about some specific ways that simple machines have changed our life from the lives of The Early Hunter Gatherers.
I remember watching a presentation on how the Great Pyramid was built, with simple machines, was it a wheel/lever contraption? They did a re-enactment of how each huge granite stone was lifted up higher and higher.
ReplyDeleteThe wheel was my first thought also, but look how the writing tool has changed, from the symbolic system to the IPad.
ReplyDeleteAnother major innovation to the phalanx given by Philippos II was siege weapons. Before then Greeks were not anything amazing in sieges, and in fact were quite miserable at it. Philippos II introduced the beginning of the Greek siege through things such as catapults.
